Caring for your legacy
Ensuring the longevity of your Modern Berserker Designs hand-made cutlery is our priority. Discover essential care instructions to maintain their pristine condition and generational value. These blades are not just tools; they are heirlooms in the making, crafted with dedication in Jewett City, Connecticut.

The cornerstone of care: cleaning and oiling
To keep your hand-made cutlery in top condition, the most important steps are consistent cleaning and oiling. This prevents rust and maintains the integrity of the blade. After each use, clean the blade, wipe it dry, and apply a thin layer of oil. We recommend multi-purpose oil, such as 3-in-1, or alternatives like gun oils, non-detergent motor oils, vegetable oil, or even Mink oil. This simple routine significantly extends the life and beauty of your cutlery.

Avoiding common pitfalls
A common mistake is neglecting regular cleaning and oiling, leading to rust and deterioration. Another oversight is failing to care for the leather sheaths. Our sheaths are pre-treated with Mink oil, but annual re-oiling is essential to keep the leather supple and protect the blade. Avoiding these mistakes ensures your Modern Berserker Designs cutlery remains a cherished item for years to come.

Storage and maintenance secrets
Beyond cleaning and oiling, proper storage plays a crucial role in extending the life of your cutlery. Store your blades in a climate-controlled environment, away from basements or garages where humidity can cause rust. Re-oil the blade at least bi-annually, or quarterly for best results, even when not in use. These practices, combined with sheath maintenance, ensure your cutlery remains in excellent condition, ready to be passed down through generations.
Basic berserker blade care
All of our Blades to date are made from High Carbon steel and therefor are vulnerable to rust if not properly cared for. Multi-purpose oil such as 3-in-1 oil is what your berserk blade ships with. But gun oils, non-detergent motor oils, vegetable oil or even Mink oil will do the trick.
When not in use -, Re-oil the blade at least bi-annually if not quarterly to ensure corrosion isn't occurring. Storing the blade in a climate controlled part of the house or at least out of the basement will do wonders to preservation even without oil. If it does start to rust, let it patina and just use it or a brass bristle brush will do wonders too clean it up.
Cleaning - Clean the blade after each use, regardless of what you used it for. Wipe it dry and re-oil it when your done. Soap and water is suitable, if its just too grimy, but don't forget to wipe dry and re-oil.
Our Leather sheaths are usually stained to color and then always Mink oiled. We use a Mink oil that has a the color red and a Moose on the label; truly good stuff. We do recommend that you re-oil the leather annually to keep it alive. Remember, the blade and its sheath could be passed down through generations, if properly cared for, down to the next run of little Vikings.
